Erectile Dysfunction

Botox as a treatment option for Erectile Dysfunction

There has been a great deal of excitement in the press regarding Botox as a treatment option for a number of conditions, not just as an anti-aging solution.

As a medical company investing in the future of men’s sexual health treatments, we are currently supporting a large-scale treatment trial investigating the use and benefits of Botox as a medical solution for men suffering from Erectile Dysfunction. Our doctor, Mr. Amr Raheem has joined Professor Hussein Ghanem to guide this trial at the Cairo University Medical School, Egypt.

The prognosis for this trial looks extremely promising with clinical pilot study carried out in 2016, providing fantastic results. In short, nearly 50% of men who received a 50ml injection of Botox (botulinum toxin type A, the active component of Botox) as opposed to a placebo, recorded significant erectile while 25% were able to complete full penetrative sex

All men involved in the study were severe and end stage erectile dysfunction and had no ability to perform sexual intercourse. In such cases the only option currently available to them is a costly penile prosthesis (surgical silicon implant).

The initial animal study, carried out on medical research rats in 2015, also proved extremely successful.

How does it work?

Dr Amr explained that “it is believed that the smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow to a man’s penis from a Botox injection could help him to maintain an erection and the effect may last for up to 6 months. This offers a lifeline to both men and their partners and avoids costly surgical procedures.”

What do we expect?

From the initial results, we believe that Botox could be a viable treatment option for men suffering from Erectile Dysfunction. It will provide a very fast acting, affordable solution for the men who are viable candidates for this treatment option, as prescribed by their doctor. It will also be less time consuming as it will require only an injection (or multiple depending on the patient’s prognosis) to administer.

It could prove to be a game changer in the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction. However, as this is mid trial, we must follow the correct medical procedures to understand the treatment protocol fully to establish the correct procedure for this treatments implementation and to minimise and understand any side effects.

When and how much?

The cost of Botox as a treatment for Erectile Dysfunction will vary depending on the condition of the patient. Botox itself is widely manufactured and therefore should be a cheaper option that many other current treatments. The costs incurred will include a consultation and other diagnostic test amounts.

In terms of availability and time, the current trial will provide results between September and October 2017. Depending on the outcome of this trial, we will be providing this treatment soon after in the UK, Greece, Italy and Dubai. Watch this space for the latest treatment updates!

I am suffering from erectile dysfunction, what should I do next?

We advise you to book a consultation with one of our highly experienced doctors. The first step towards successful treatment is an accurate diagnosis of potential causes by our specialists.

After this, our doctors will seek to do two things:

  • design a treatment plan that will allow you immediately to achieve a strong erection to continue normal sexual activities
  • design a treatment plan to address the underlying causes of your erectile dysfunction. This means that each treatment we offer in our clinic is highly personalised.

While our doctor’s experience from over 30,000 erectile dysfunction patients allows us to create detailed treatment plans, a majority of doctors limit treatment options to medication, often leaving the underlying causes untreated. This can lead to a life-long dependence on drugs and in many cases, long term, unsuccessful treatment and your dissatisfaction.
